Practice the following song "Mexican Hat Dance" on your guitar.
1. Clap & count the rhythm. You have a new time signature.
6/8 time signature (there are six beats per measure) 123456, 123456 etc.
The bottom number of a time signature tells us what note receives 1 beat. Since the bottom number is now an 8, think of it as a fraction of 1/8, and the eighth note/rest receives 1 beat in 6/8 time.
Therefore, a quarter note receives 2 beats.
a dotted quarter note receives 3 beats.
2. Say the letter names of the notes in rhythm.
3. Play the song on your guitar. (B-flat is 3.3 on the fret board).
4. Play the song on your guitar while saying the letter names of the notes in rhythm.
5. Strum the chords using dotted quarter notes(two strums in each measure of 6/8 time). Strum on count 1
and count 4 of each measure.
