9th-grade College Planning Checklist ✔️
Academics:
Take challenging courses:
9th graders should aim for a rigorous schedule that includes advanced courses (Dual enrollment, honors, AP) when appropriate and aligns with their interests and strengths.
Prioritize good grades:
Earn strong grades in all your classes, "C" or better
Develop strong study habits:
This includes time management, organization, and effective learning techniques.
Start practicing these skills early to avoid struggling later.
Extracurricular Activities:
Explore interests:
Ninth grade is a time to try out different clubs, sports, and other activities.
This helps students discover passions and develop skills relevant to potential college majors or careers.
Commit to activities:
Colleges look for students who demonstrate commitment and leadership in their chosen activities, so focus on developing those skills.
Summer opportunities:
Summer can be a great time to explore interests through internships, jobs, or volunteer work related to potential college majors or career paths.
College Planning:
Meet with a counselor:
Work with your school counselor to ensure you are on track to graduate and meeting the A-G requirements.
Start researching colleges:
Explore different types of institutions and learn about their admissions requirements and programs.
Attend college fairs:
College fairs offer an opportunity to learn about different schools and ask questions.
WUHSD College Fair will be September 10th at Pioneer HS, 6:00 - 8:00 PM.
Consider standardized tests:
Take the PSAT on Oct 30th.
Stay Informed:
Attend information workshops at the Horizons Office in room C122.
