hello everyone welcome back to the senior Awards celebration for the Whittier High School class of 2020 my name is lewmarnels and I am the director of New Horizons for Whittier High School it is my great pleasure. in the presentation of the awards underachievement the first award is the Cielo by literacy the syllabi literacy is given in recognition of students who have studied and master two or more languages in high school student can receive a still metal for mastering one language other than English or they can receive a gold medal for mastering two or more languages other than English all of these students have met one of the following require they must successfully complete 4 years in the with the minimum grade of a b receive a score of a 3 or higher on a World Language advanced placement exam or receive a passing score of 80% on the Whittier Union by literacy competency competency exam sapiens will receive a notation on their transcript and we'll have a metal and a certificate in their envelope students who also meet or exceed standards on the English portion of the S back also qualify for state seal of biliteracy and a gold seal on the face of their diploma students are silver letter C Silver Madeline Grace Calderon Martinez Emmanuel Garcia Ezequiel Medrano Abby Mendoza Monica Mendoza Sakina Junior Luis solorzano Janet Toledo the next group of students are silver medalist who also called the state seal of biliteracy Jacqueline. Tim Deegan are Whittier High School Visual and Performing Arts students demonstrate incredible achievement and fellow Cardinals and to the Whittier Community as a whole by expressing and inspiring creativity through a variety of disciplines including dance theater vocal music instrumental music and visual art this year a total of 23 seniors have gone above and beyond in these different art forms to earn a visual Performing Arts metal the silver medalist had to meet following requirements be completed at least 40 credits of Visual and Performing Arts classes with a 3.0 GPA or higher in those classes and they completed at least 10 Visual and Performing Arts credits in their senior and they completed at least 10 credits in advanced level Visual and Performing Arts course here are our Visual and Performing Arts silver medalist Tiaras Giselle Perez and Jonathan Rivas York Department is pleased to award nineteen students with the gold Visual and Performing Arts medal this year turn this award these students completed all the same requirements as the silver medalist only with an A minus average in their arts classes Winter High School's Visual and Performing Arts gold medalist Performing Arts at Whittier High School with still more to come our next presenter will be the assistant principal of instruction Jennifer Medina hello everyone my name is Jennifer Medina and I am the assistant principal of curriculum and instruction it is my pleasure to announce the last round of ammo underachievement the Whittier Union High School District gives AP medals that reward participation and excellence in advanced placement classes and on AP exam rap medal winners have taken at least four e-courses earned grades have at least a b in those courses and completed the AP course work in those courses previous years coursework is based on semester 2 grades in current coursework is based on some you're one Brave I'm being signed up to take the appropriate AP exam our
