okay and we have a recording going so welcome to our parent town hall on August 9th 2021 welcome back we're really looking forward to this and we're really excited you are joining us here tonight just a quick introduction my name is on the principal of Whittier High School is it going to be by 2050 year in education my 17th year with your high school in my six year as the principal of Whittier High School I'm with me tonight and I'll just go to them quickly over here and come from many of them later on in the presentation Kevin Garcia is our dean of students I know this is our Horizons director and she will be doing a lot of the work in the Spanish language ever known this your night principal business activities will also be working in our Spanish language version last night I would you have a full house here tonight so we do are the microphones needed just keep on talking over each other so if you have questions please do use the chat will do our best to go ahead and answer those questions as we go by the types of questions that. But might have simulated so as we head into the school year we have some some pretty important to talk about to try to make this as normal of a school year as possible we're all forced coming off of YouTube abnormal school year that any of us has ever seen we are certainly excited about working towards you I'm over this year we'll probably not quite there yet and shortly where we're very aware and very cognizant of what's going on with covid-19 in terms of the Deltas Community if you think about it only 25% of our students are seeing the only group of students would had a full normal year of high school no one else including our Juniors didn't quite get to a full year back in their in their freshman year only our seniors got a full normal year of high school so we're trying to I was hoping our students reconnect School Watkins reconnect socially so that they can have fun and enjoy high school because it is meant to be a fun experience as both a growth but we also want to make sure my students to our school academically we want to sure we are providing all of our students with a world-class education and we know that there is going to need to be a little reconnection because we're going to be in person and not going to be working through noon and then we just walk and Oliver teachers back this morning all of us are going to have remember that that teaching classes in person is going to be different than teaching classes through the gym and then it's really nice it's just I want to make it a point of emphasis we want to make sure we keep everybody safe this year that is that is absolutely our number one priority I told our staff this morning that if I'm given an option if I had a choice to make I always going to err on the side of safety we want to keep all of our stew we want to make sure that all of you at home are safe and healthy and so that's going to got a lot of the decision-making that we make this year is that idea and that importance of safety so I'm going to go ahead and start this presentation bike sharing with you the protocols that we are working under right now I'll do the covid-19 the protocols that we follow all come to us from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and I know that in the news you will hear a lot about lots of different Regulatory Agencies such as the California Department of Public Health OSHA you hear about the CDC ultimately all of that filters down to the county level and the county level produces a document they produced pause that we have to follow that we are ultimately accountable to so the most recent version of the code of protocols that we are working under would just published a few weeks ago July 28th was the date were working on and we are why don't you go ahead and go through those now with you at this time tell me to start with it. With the big one which is the mask requirement and this is a requirement for all students and staff so this is required actually everywhere in LA County already been required for school is kind of before that when students and staff are inside inside a hallways and that our classroom is that a locker rooms the library I Jen any type of indoor space all students and staff are required to wear face masks over their nose and mouth while indoors regardless of vaccination status so they in some ways they made it very simple for it work side we have to wear masks and and there are no exceptions for that based on vaccinations status it's inside you have to wear a mask outside our campus Squad in a horseshoe are athletic YouTube face mask is optional not the same time because we think it's a good practice for everyone to continue to wear face mask but we're not going to require it. Send we do need to make sure that every student has a mask when they actually have the campus every student is going to be indoors the one of these will be doing when our students come on campus and you hear a little bit more later is the students will have show us when they come in. They have a mask when they have a campus that they didn't bring them ask if they forgot one will make sure we have masks for them so that everybody will have a mask the masking is required for all of us do. indoors at all times and we will go ahead and follow that rule with the deli so if there's any way on your end not sure but that is normal people so they can't hear anything Myspace maybe that will help by one more thing oh that's fine. How about now's he's better much better sorry I had my I had switched microphones down and I didn't realize I had done it I'm asking again for some reason I'm asking is required indoors that is a requirement for all students and staff hugely important for the protocol we need everybody and again this is for students and staff we need everybody to stay home if they're sick and I know that's the way we grew up I think about when I was in school my father pretty much told me I had to go to school everyday regardless you didn't want to hear about the fact that had a cough he didn't want to hear by the fact that was sneezing and had a fever that was not an option I had to go to school if that's how I was raised but that's not the reality that we're living under right now because of covid 6 you need to stay home we are asking all students do an informal Health assessment of themselves before school as parents we would love for you to help him out with that before your students leave house in the morning ask them how they're feeling ask him if they have any symptoms if your student is sick please keep them at home and contact our attendance office now we are going to need to learn a little bit more about how your student is set what type of cell please don't be surprised if you leave a message for example with our tenants office if you get a phone call back with questions about your symptoms or your student symptoms please no we're not trying to be nosy but we're not trying to interfere in anybody's price batters but there are certain things that we do have to follow up with if the student is exhibiting symptoms that might be covid related and so those questions we have to follow up with our necessary please know that if you're still for some reason become sick during the school day we will talk to you to pick them up and we will have a place soon to wait on campus where they are isolated from other so that there's there's no chance of exposure and also please know that when your student return to school after an absence there. how to stop by your attendance office before going to class and for those of you who are returning your high school this is not something we've typically done in the past if you were absent from school on as long as you were feeling better you could just go back to class but we now need to make sure that every is actually better he has followed through the protocols that I'm going to share with you in a moment and the way to do that is to have the students get cleared by the attendance office before they go back to the classroom so if you do have a student to stay at home because you're sick make sure they when they get to school they're going to check in with the attendance office we're going to be setting up basically a satellite attendance office right outside the library which is right inside one of our entrances so the students don't actually have to go into a building like to meet with our tenant staff and get there if they're past we have met the class like I said we want students to always stay home and they're sick but I want to make sure that you're aware that based on County guidelines or County protocols there are symptoms that right now require us to exclude a student from school I'm and they're these 5 symptoms that are on the screen cough shortness of breath difficulty breathing chills or a thief and a fever of course means a lot of different things to a lot of from people the protocols to find a fever is being anything as 100.4 degrees or higher so if your student has any of these symptoms any combination of b symptoms they need to stay home and we will be following up to give you some further instructions to let me go ahead and give you an example of what that might look like based on the protocols we have from the county if a student has any of those covid symptoms that I just showed you student will be directed to stay home until a couple of things happened never won the symptoms have to resolve the student has to feel better and if they have a fever their fever has to drop the low 100.4 for 24 hours without the use of any fever-reducing medication right when you sick if you take Tylenol when you come back to school when your symptoms are getting better we need to see the fever has come down naturally and so that means 24 hours without the use of any medication to make bring your fever down the other thing we're going to need per protocol is we're going to need one or two things either a negative covid test results or a doctor's clearance a doctor's clearance might come from if your your student has some type of pre-existing condition but stick asthma at the great example if a student is asthmatic they might be a prone to fits of coughing and of course coughing is one of the symptoms we have to exclude you for so if you bring us a doctor's note that says my student has asthma the coughing that the student is doing is typical of their asthma that will will carry the same for us as a negative covid test result will be following up with you to tell you about this will remind you about this that'll be a phone call that you will get will ask you to go get a covid test or on a doctor's clearance we can do some covid testing on our campus we do have a rapid test that we can do a right now a lot of the a lot of the protocols are calling for either a PCR molecular testing return of which is not unfortunately the fast 15-minute rapid test but we will make testing available whenever we can be only thing we won't do is we will not bring symptomatic students onto campus to test them a big pot car are prevention of covid spread is to keep people who are systematic and potentially have covid-19 ampus so we don't want to bring them on to campus to test them to test expose them to students or staff what happened to the student test positive for covid and obviously of course we hope this does not happen but you know where it where school is almost 2,000 people including our employees you know unfortunately it may happen at at some point during the year so if you test positive for covid that's Goodwill directed to isolate at home for a minimum of 10 days they can return to school after 10 days if their symptoms have improved kind of his we were talking about earlier know that what we're going to have to do if a student test pause call Bettis we're going to have to initiate contact tracing to try to find out who might have been a close contact with that student who tested positive in close contact is defined as anybody who's been within speed of an infected individual for a cumulative 15 minutes in a 24-hour. Of time so that could be students that sit next to the the deposit student in class that could be teachers that could be pee ride the bus with the Positive student we have to identify all of those all of those individuals who may be close contacts because then we need to contact down and take the next step in the protocol the one thing I should emphasize I see the ice late we sometimes use isolate and quarantine interchangeably they're not quite quarantine means you have to stay home I sleep is more than that I slayton's you not only have to stay home but when you're home you just stay away from other people in your household so that you don't potentially infect them as well that's what happens if the student tests positive for covid test positive for covid rules that they don't apply differently to students and staff we're all the same we're all just as susceptible to potentially getting the virus and so there's no separate set of rules for students and staff we all are playing by the snow Blue Book I mentioned before it's possible that your student might be identified they close contact if somebody else tests positive somebody they sitting here in class somebody may play sports with something like that here is where the the protocols take into account and this is really the only place that currently the protocols take into account dachshund in status so if a student is identified as a close contact of somebody who had coat if we think they've been exposed if there are unvaccinated the protocols require us to quarantine that student for 10. that asked you can potentially return early after 7 days as long as they don't develop symptoms and as long as they can get a negative covid test taken after day five of the Corn do an unvaccinated close contact at the default automatic 10 day quarantine but potentially the student could return early again if they don't develop symptoms and they have a negative covid test if a student has been vaccinated fully vaccinated which means two weeks after their second dose of Pfizer or if they have actually had covid within the last 90 days then that's two dozen I need to quarantine if they're closed contacted Band-Aid continue to attend school normally as long as they don't develop symptoms if they develop symptoms that's a whole different thing then it goes back to the earlier slide about what happens if your has symptoms right so this is the one area in the protocols for vaccination status makes a difference if you're identified as a close contact that will affect whether or not you have to quarantine and I understand that for all of you whether or not to vaccinate your kids is a personal decision and I again I don't want to interfere in any type of personal decisions I absolutely respect all if you are right and make that help decision for your family I totally get that but from a pure selfish standpoint in terms of helping to manage the school during the pandemic it will certainly be easier for all of us if more people are vaccinated we are less likely to get David on our campus if people are vaccinated they're also going to be less folks that will have to exclude from campus in a quarantine if they're vaccinated so there are definite advantages built into the protocol on based on vaccinations status now if you haven't had an opportunity to get your your student vaccinated and it's something that you're interested in we will be doing a vaccine clinic on our campus for students it'll be Tuesday August 24th in the morning by morning early afternoon 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. about how students can sign up it is obviously completely voluntary if I know I didn't say this earlier so say it now vaccinations are not required to attend but if it's something you're interested in you haven't had the chance to do it yet we will have that opportunity for you on campus it'll work a lot like a blood drive would work on our campus where students could get an appointment if they sign up to go get their vaccine given half honor campus it be monitored off of side effects and that would all happen here at Whittier High School on August 24th again if you're interested just a miscellaneous covid-19 some things that would be social distancing physical distancing is no longer a requirement in classrooms with just the same we have made our class sizes a little bit smaller this year and not quite as small as they were last year but they're also not as large as they might be in a normal your systems will probably see some some slightly smaller classes I'm please know that there's also very regular cleaning of restrooms in classrooms going on on a daily basis on this campus for those of you whose kids play sports at this time all of the previous protocols the governed Youth Sports have been retired so there are no separate protocols right now for Youth Sports I think that probably going to change I think it'll probably change so for right now usports House of fall under the same basic rules that we is for schools and I think the important part of that is outdoors Master optional indoors masks are required so right now our football team practice outdoors with mask off because they're Outdoors but our girls volleyball team which is faxing right now getting ready for their season because that's an indoor sport anything they do indoors they have to be masked and then I think some some Youth Sports specific protocols will probably be coming out within the next your cell but they're not out yet and so we got to operate under what we have please know that you know we know that more students are going to be absent this year than normal both because like I said earlier wouldn't be it wouldn't be out of the ordinary Kentucky Cabins with a cough or something like that but now we really can't have that happen will also have students getting quarantined because they're closed contacts will be flexible in helping students caught up on the makeup work we talked about and in a lot of our teachers are really excited before last year not many of our teachers had really use Google Classroom extensively last year they got to see what a great tool Google Classroom was Amy I would City great great great majority of our teachers plan to continue using Google Classroom this year even though our classes were meeting in person and I know I've got two kids in high school right now I know for both of them they really love the convenience or Google Classroom if they do 2 day of school just bring up the login see what they missed and get it turned in so we'll work with you we understand that more students will be absent than normal that's okay we're okay with that I want to pass quickly before I move this next part's on mrs. Huntley I know you've been been working in the chat there with her any questions on covid protocols that you like me to address out loud I am trying to catch up as much as I can know I think just the clarification that I've been making is that we won't have zoom right that it's going to be in person soon won't be on at the same time so you know why is my bee trap slowly so you know the model that our district is using right now it's just starting the year with you as 100% in percent in our Comprehensive High School's if your student is interested in a purely online auction our district is offering that but they're offering it to Sierra Vista High School on and so that would require students to actually enrollment Sierra Vista and not be enrolled at Whittier High School if that's something that's important to you if that's an option that you're looking for then that option is available to you with Ric or program Abba know what that we are high school and all the other Comprehensive High School stand up a Pioneer Lucerne until High all of the classes will be in personal that will not be a zoom component to this class okay I'm if Ms Medina wants to take over on chat I will there's a couple questions I didn't get to miss Medina's I was trying to transition to so yeah you can take you out to go ahead and talk about our schedule all right thank you mr. Leggett I'll let you are you still advancing the sides for me though okay thank you very much so for the first week of school and we are excited to welcome our freshmen and sophomores on the first day I did send out a reminder today where they will be meeting at 7:40 a.m. out of the gym that will be off of Lindley Avenue where we'll start admitting students to our program that day is going to end a little earlier 2 p.m. that full schedule was sent out and please know that lunch will be provided again I ask for our 9th and 10th graders that includes some activities getting to know each other a campus to her and meeting their teachers as well I will show you the bell schedule and the next slides but Thursday will be the the first day for the juniors and seniors and then the freshmen and sophomores will be joining us those days as well so it's when so freshman sophomore start Wednesday and then all the rest start Thursday and Friday if you're sure Jen has a zero. That class will meet this Thursday and Friday so you can see our slides on the next page or schedules okay so on Tuesday and Thursday but obviously this week we don't have Tuesday so this Thursday when will have all our students on campus if they have a zero. They will start at 7 a.m. most of our students do not have a zero. So for most of them start at 8:10 and then you will see our breaks for nutrition from 10:10 to 10:20 I'm guilty Roblox but the day ends at 3:00 everyday Wednesday and Friday so every day if they have a zero. Class are going to have their zero. Tuesday and Thursday they have their first 3rd and 5th. Block schedules and Wednesday and Friday that they have their second 4th and sticks. block schedules so Monday is late start is late start for our students which they seem to enjoy waking up on a Monday as we know when days can be tough after the weekend or our teachers the reason Monday is a late start day is because we are using that time to have professional development on whether it's a whole staff meeting department meeting or subject like meeting our teachers are using that time in order we do have a lot of different support and place first units boat during a regular school year and even more so this year so some of this academic support will be familiar to our parents of bands who are upperclassmen so the first that embedded support that's the last 20 minutes of every class during that those Tuesday Thursday Wednesday Friday class schedules we showed you do during the last 20 minutes of class it's at the fraction of the teacher some teachers for example I taught in this district for 12 years so if my students had a c or higher and they hadn't been absent or tardy if they wanted to stay and work on their homework and get support they can but it's not as long as their homework was in I just miss them and so that way you can work with smaller groups of students who need additional support retake quizzes and tests excetera off for those students who are released from embedded support so they would get along and lunch or leave a little earlier please note I'm is still supervised by our Security Administrative team it gives those students in it gives students incentive in general to make sure that they're on top of their homework on time and everything else but it also provides some very needed support during the school day so that our teachers are able to work with our students in smaller groups and so our students are able to easily access assistance when their teachers after school we have to prep program so I'm going to take place in our library that program is totally starting in a couple weeks we'll have our supper program so after school students can get a free meal and then regardless of whether or not they're on free or reduced lunch and they had the assistance of college tutors who can provide that academic support also some enrichment like some bucks that we have are your students might also mention academic mentors for some of your upperclassmen students they may be academic mentors and freshman will see many of them in their classes so these are trained Juniors and seniors are trained to support students in their classes so for example you might have a student in calculus who was assisting in an algebra 1 class of their massive that Continental but they're also training how to help one teacher trying you know help multiple students who need assistance at once they have more support in class we academic mentors we also have mental health support as I said we have mental health support during a normal school year but obviously we realize that after the pandemic and we are ramping up our mental health support that we have all of our teachers have been trained on embedding social emotional learning in the curriculum and back tomorrow is a professional development day we will be working with all our staff to reinforce professional development that they had over summer and talk about our school web plants as well in addition to the training our teachers have received we do have a full-time license clinical social worker on our campus all of our counselors are trained in social emotional and we're lucky to have some amazing Partners 1st at old child so we do have three whole child clinicians on our campus of offices on campus as well as social and social work into through our district while being office so we work closely with our guidance team to make sure that the social emotional needs of our students are being met all right and in terms of I'm going to take it here over thank you to mr. Garcia campus entry points for the first is the Horseshoe gate this is the east side of Campus on Whittier Avenue when will show a map here in the next Slide the second entrance the second option is on the Lindley gate that's the west side of Campus on Lindley Avenue the Lindley gate is the entrance that's recommended for students of bikes or skateboards that they will need to lock up we do highly recommend that students get their own bike locks or skateboard locks in order to lock their bikes we do occasionally provide loners but students may not all I'm have a security guard there immediately when they need to unlock there but their bike or their skateboard so she's one of those things where we do want students to answer through them the gate cuz we'll be closer to the bike rack or the skateboard rack and they should have their own blocks and makes them convenient student I will also need IDs and fortunately student IDs will not be ready after the first week of school but they'll be in shortly after that students who have not already done so can take their ID photos I'm on the 16th of August start 7:30 a.m. and then once students are given IDs all students need to present their ideas at the entrance and can be in a little something like this everyday and carry their I do it all the time so students will get the IDs and shortly but they won't be available the first week again once they do get them and we want them to have them and present them at all times and then here is the entrance is on the map so on the left side I'm right above the cafeteria that is the Lindley gate that's the west side of campus and then on the right side I'm right above the D building that's the only game that's on Whittier Avenue so those are your two main transfer students right and I'm not stopping to talk about our Behavior expectations and Cardinals with class of the dean of student I'll be holding your students accountable for their behavior so I want to talk briefly about this we do go over all of this stuff with your students as well as several times throughout the beat the beginning of school and we'll be doing presentations throughout so here at Whittier High School to talk about cars with class that Whittier we recognized student their efforts and demonstrating positive student behavior and doing their best inside and outside the classroom we expect our students to be Cardinals with class each of the letters in class does represent specific characteristics and that would your high school students are expected to exhibit I'm so Carlos's class the C stands for citizenship you know follow the rules being a good good person leadership that stands for L stands for leadership you know that could that could be a leader in different areas with a sports team in the classroom with in a club on their different ways to the leaders on campus I'm a stands for achievement so students are recognized through their treatment various ways it to be under all that could be by demonstrating one of these I'm going to be on that you know sports award but we do recognize and expects to strive for achievement as stands for self-respect so that's a student doing what's right and taking care of themselves respected in South another and then the last  is service to the community and our students taking care of the school taking care of each other and their community so if students are demonstrating all these do not anticipate any problems with discipline but it does happen let's see your next life so I'm not going to go into this too much detail for students in their handbook parents should have received this Pages 23 through 24 detail the school-wide behavior expectations consequences but with our discipline policy we do have high expectations with high expectations come serious consequences when those expectations are not met so we refer to these as the big five these expectations are not met students can be suspended transferred expelled and or cited just after the first offense but these are the ones that we consider extremely serious and our policy is very strict in that students suspended and sent to another school so the big five are fighting anything related to drugs or being under their influence on campus weapon sexual harassment assault or any such activity on campus and then creating a hostile environment this can be considered no bullying threatening any other types of ways that students might cause a hostile environment again those are the big five detailed more on pages 23 to 24 as are the rest of our Behavior expectations but I did want to share those five specifically for those will lead to a suspension and transfer potentially explosion after the first offense do we do want parents and students to be very aware that early on and know what our expectations are so miss Medina all right thank you mr. Garcia I'm going to talk a little bit about our technology I know there was a few in the chat room about there Iberico so students the good news is we are going 121 I know in the past year-and-a-half we've provided Chromebooks for students who needed them but now we are officially going once once the students will be receiving their Chromebooks on the second week of school we have our English teachers are giving up a little bit of time to bring the students in and will checking them out each Chromebook will become with a protective cover at this point as with many things that are being shipped into the United States things are sitting at the ports or hopefully we'll have those covers for the studio when we pass out of the Chromebooks and through data confirmation the documentation was filled out there was also an insurance option for parents to purchase first student however if you miss that opportunity we can also purchased the insurance through our web store as well as directly from our business and activities office and Sylveon dreams if you were unsure of it what year is $30 two years is $55 and 324 years is $80 so you can buy your gear you can buy it in one book for all the four year and again you can purchase out through the Whittier High School web web store through our website or you can call the BNA office directly my mom's going to share a little bit about activities it's important for students to you know assimilate back to high school and find the joy that that comes with being a part of high school and so the way we do that is getting our kids connected to the many activities that we have here at Whittier High in students have a lot of opportunities we have over fifty clubs available to students if your students interested in something I can guarantee you we have a club for them and if we don't students easily can start a club talking to one of her teachers having the mentor the students and then they can get the paperwork done so we have environmentally focused we have cat focus with all kinds of Interest first you dip we also have our athletic programs is he can see the fall winter and spring sports are listed the be refers to our boys to a sports in the Jeep to the girls Sports and then many of her Sports Arco a so far fall Sports you'll hear a little bit and we have football water polo cross-country golf volleyball add 10 if we're really excited I know many of our students have started the practice over the summer and for when two or more interested or also interested in the theater in the Arts we have our fall play our spring musical the art show which is usually in April + music of the night that we have a couple times did hear once in December once in April as we also have four students who are interested in leadership will have her student government and our class counsel so Student Government student Supply they interview and then they're selected but for class Council any student in a clear cloth is welcome to join the class counsel and they help support their class in different events throughout the school year and I was previously mentioned earlier academic mentors as well as our Senators they are an important part of the lead search up here on our campus are student support each other in the classroom and then our Senators work as mentors throughout the year to help our freshmen on this year as sophomores assembly back to school and get connected with students and with a campus and the ASP card this is actually really good value for a student of SD card for $50 and they actually go to directly back into our school activities for students who purchase the SD card again to into all football basketball wrestling and volleyball games for free so that's exciting that's a nice inexpensive way for a kiss just spend the night you know enjoying a football game hanging with their friends cheering on our school and it's a great safe place to be they also receive pretty substantial discount to our dances our yearbook and many of our other and all the proceeds for the SD card go directly back to supporting our students they pays for the referees and pays for tournaments for sports teams as well as Letterman Awards and then we have our social media for those of you who don't follow us on social media our Instagram or Twitter or Facebook we are pretty active we provide a lot of information out there for you and waste to see our students succeed during the school year we provide pictures of our athletes and our performances but we also provide a lot of information so if maybe you missed that parents were phone call or didn't see that text you can always come back to our social media we always try and double up and provide all that information for you there as well so please follow our social media okay I'll take this art as we're trying to get our students back involved into our campus we would absolutely love to have all of you all of her parents involved in our campus is well and I just wanted to share with you some upcoming parent involvement opportunities are the first one will be a coffee with this is something that I'm going to get back to doing monthly this year everything was real weird last year of course with with and Eric Roberts first talk with the principal is planned for September 3rd at 8:15 a m what I like to do with the coffee with the principal I like to alternate them so that one month it's in the morning and then one be next month it's in the evening so hopefully I can I can work with different people's work schedules on in that regard and I'm going to look at seeing if I can come up with a way to take my coffee with the principal and have it all do you like hybrid where where people can come and join me in person but I might also have a camera on me as you moping so that people who can't be in person can I can I can do it virtually spots open at our school site Council this year felt our School site council is really important group on campus at it helps Kevin the use of our Title 1 money I'm so please be looking for information about how to run for School site Council if that's something that you're interested in or three times a year neocap advisory team meets the El Camp is another big chunk of money that we get off from the state not from the federal government and three times a year we work specifically to get parent input on how to best put those funds to use this what are students typically the first El Cap advisory meeting is fairly early in the year to plant around October we don't have a date for the first one it's actually something that set up by our district once we have that date that everybody is welcome will make sure how did we get the invitation out and if you're interested in joining us we would love to get your feedback on a lot of other organizations on campus at parent booster clubs they not all bad Sarah have great booster club if your skin is involved in a specific extracurricular activity there's probably a parent organization associated with it where you can get involved and you can help support that organization and support those students also look for this booster club opportunities another great opportunity if you want to go Bob Lazar ppsa are we have a great active PCS ate at me probably once a month typically on a Thursday and will be in the late afternoon or early evening if the third Thursday of each month has been raised for scholarships they've been funding issue teachers that do all kinds of great things and I know our PCS a board is always interested in I'm getting more parents into the fold when it comes to getting involved so I'm that kind of takes us to the end of our prepared presentation really the writing will address some of them out loud I want to thank you something in this Medina for being all over the chat and trying to answer the questions that's the possibly can otherwise one question before I took the presentation and the questions about the Chromebooks and whether or not a student bring their own personal Chromebooks or if they should use the school Chromebooks are the answers we would prefer that the students at least while they're on campus use the school Chromebooks and the reason for that is our district to spend a lot of money on a lot of different apps that teachers are going to be using and a lot of those apps are only going to be licensed to work on our Chromebooks and so if your student is in class with a personal Chromebook and not a school Chromebook they won't necessarily be able to access that app of like everybody else see if you can work at home if if it's just the Google Docs or something like that any Chromebook will do if you want to use your own for that that would be great but I would highly recommend bringing the school Chromebook to school have that be the device that use on a campus the other advantage of the school Chromebook is it goes on a regular Wi-Fi network and not sort of our special guest Wi-Fi access network which does have a limited number of slots on and so there's also a connectivity advantage to having the school I'm as being the Chromebook that they use on campus any questions. Mrs. hunt we are missing the dinner that you are seeing that you would like me to address for everybody I am muted I'll just say we're getting a couple schedule questions at the end I think this is a good opportunity I'm to let you know on our website you'll see both on that on the front page what announcement section and there's one has the bell schedule so you can see it there so I'm just going to answer this one out loud cuz I'm going to text you a couple times and we also leave out the student handbook for our seniors I take full responsibility I was in that first day of program pick up forgot to pass it out to all the seniors so they'll get their updated student handbook and their English classes are freshman through Juniors we gave them to them at program pick up it has a lot of information there and polluting our bell schedule in there too and I did see number of questions. Start time of dismissal time so Tuesday through Friday or start time is 8:10 and our dismissal time is 3 but on Monday we have a late start on a school day starts at 9 is still dismisses at 3 so this Thursday which is our first day of school for all of our students will start first. At 8:10 a.m. we will dismiss v. I at 3 p.m. so that's the answered it on start time and end time Miss Medina feel free to read any kind of common questions allowed him answering quite a few. yeah messages right now so students will have to be nasty on buses it's a question about about dress code that the simple answer on dress code is that delicious kitchen with some of the things that actually not allowed we don't allow any type of articles of clothing shirts whatever that have any images of violence on them any images of drug use and a sexual images or anything like that all those are things that are absolute nose on a dress code I'll probably the biggest thing that we look for a lot of dress code is up to teacher discretion at administrative review is very difficult these days to create a dress code that is purely gender-neutral I remember looking at our dress code a long time ago and seeing the roughly 90% of it coronavirus tickly being applied the young ladies and so as our school as we've tried to come up with dress codes that are more gender-neutral question about lockers are lockers will be provided for PE but not on campus and actually do not have enough lockers on campus for all of our students and we're actually in the process of retire and Oliver on campus lockers for PE yes students will receive lockers fairly early in the school year I did see the question about lunches yes lunches will be free for everyone all year we're really excited about that I also saw question about distribution will be distributed at multiple points around campus or the students don't necessarily I'll have to congregate in one place they're going to be carts around campus and different locations that students I can get much from in addition to the Syria I mean I just a question on on Destiny how to be a wanted winter homecoming that is something we may look into prom prom with planning to move forward with with all of our activities right now they're all they're all basically Allowed by protocol right now so we we would like to move forward that when I can't comment on his grad night because Brad that is really up to us for iPad is up to the theme parks like Disneyland Universal Etc to decide what they're going to do so. That's an answer I don't have for you you are right now we are just trying to reserve a venue students were asking for that instead of State eat this year the plans and then grad night we have a reservation stat with Disneyland but like Mr Leggett said it's not guaranteed and it's all subject to County protocols in all of that so the goal is criss-crossed and we have promised that up also shows bolus fingers crossed that we will be able to have all of those events in the cell survive as long as you're mine and commenting is a question about lockers not just for students PE backpack for student-athletes as well we have a plan for for lockers for student-athletes there is Lockers in the locker room that are dedicated for a Seasons that are able to utilize them they just have to bring their own box for that and then for lockers on campus we don't issue them out to everybody if your student has a lot to carry we do make case-by-case exceptions to be able to provide lockers or just have them visit the BNA office Missy Salazar there's no question that I should know the answer to something to ask you I know lunch is free for everyone this year will do any free food past Elgin nutrition there will be it'll be the same lunch and then they'll be something at nutrition and then in a couple of weeks we'll start our supper program after school where students can pick and a  normal prior to heading home or heading to practice or their games or anything like that but that won't start I believed until the last week of August don't need their IDs on a daily basis it's all connected to their ID number so they would just swipe it until we talked about earlier how we don't have the IDS for the first couple of weeks so they'll just be check marking every student as they come through for a child ability while we are IDs to everybody ask us a question with a return to the recording of this meeting what we'll do is we'll make the recording of This meaning of bailable on our website and we'll go ahead and email that link out it's all parents so that anybody who missed the meeting or do you miss part of the meeting want to go back and watch you'll have that opportunity for student was 0. They would be released at 2:07 so 2:07 on Mondays 3 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 12:25 on Wednesdays and Fridays Allison and it's not like you want to take the question on the vaccination card and how how families can submit proof of vaccination if that's something they choose to do but rather than giving you this person email or. Send it to me I'll forward it along and we'll get it in there I just think that'll be the easiest point of contact and I'm more than happy to take care of that question about being the gates and using the crosswalk so on Mondays when we have we all. Days we will do only one direction of traffic in the tunnel that's actually something we were doing long before covid because the tunnel does get congested so on Mondays when students have to cross between frizz one three and four five and six we do one-way traffic through the tunnel and the other way uses the cross walk across Philadelphia but for the rest of our week if you look at our schedule and because each of our class. Is wind up Jack's a break like nutrition are lodged in the school day there's actually very minimal cross traffic you know for example when. Two ends students in the south side or coming to the north side for nutrition there aren't going to the South Side likewise when you Trish and then students will be going to the South side but not coming from the south side so so we definitely use the crosswalks on Mondays where we don't have the block schedule but Tuesday through Friday we just use the tunnel there was a question about purchasing food and I'm trying to get the details and I'm sorry that I don't I just know that any food purchases will have additional snacks that students can purchase like cookies and chips and different things like that and there go I'm with a fully digital systems so there won't be any exchange of money but I'm sure they will be sending more information about that once that is all finalized and I will look and see if they have it on the website but I don't think it was I know it's like yeah thank you for that do we have a start time for prep in the afternoon prep typically starts right at 3 as our school day ends we have her change the past with no 5th or 6th. We worked on arrangements with those students who are going to be attending prepped the students will have an opportunity if they don't have a 6 to stay on campus if they're going to prep if they're going to pray perfect thank you so much for that who sells are you wanting a check the quest what is talk specifically about sanitation in classrooms a sanitizing disinfecting can you read the whole question I was looking at the one question is whether it be a sanitation system between periods in the classroom teacher the teachers will be able to clean classrooms as needed in between. At this point it is not a required protocol and so we are cleaning restroom 3 when's the day at this point so we are continuing on with that and then every evening the classroom and all high-touch areas within the classroom will be clean by our custodian and that's log daily on the classroom door for the teachers in anybody should be able to keep track of those being clean on a daily basis or making sure that student desk drawer cleaned at the teacher's desk are clean that trash is being taken out on and so there's some basic things that need to be done on a daily basis to make sure that everybody is is safe it's a question about are we going to be putting the bell schedule on parentsquare the answer is yes that's going to happen tomorrow any other questions recently I asked you to take this one on Mondays for late start is it okay I need to drop students off before 9 we have supervision of starting earlier so our security will be there they'll just you know if you have to because of work just be aware that the kids will be on the front lawn of course you are or a different area so if you need to drop them off just be aware their class doesn't start until 9 they won't be going to be able to go into their teachers classroom early because their teachers will be in meetings prior to 9 a.m. yep I will absolutely have security around campus for students were hanging out early and that's that's something we're definitely a custom to have Security on campus are the question was asked year will everyone be six feet apart in the classroom such as the desk as well answer that is actually know that the Beeper calls for schools no longer require 62 distance between student desks this is actually part of the reason why the state of California I dated masks inside schools on Menaul times is because of the understanding that there was no way to practically reopen schools in person on and in a chain six feet of social distancing in classrooms one of the big reasons why master of quiet everybody inside because the 6ft separation rule has gone away is Idina where and what time tomorrow can students return books to last year tomorrow for students after 2 but they can bring Jeb and on the first day of school and each consecutive day that they are coming school they can bring in their books and during before school during lunch or after school they can return them to mrs. child who was our bookkeeper thank you for that one missed out of service what is the cost for PE clothes you know what that is a great question that I don't know the answer to but I will try vaccination cards what types of Master required on any type of a cloth face mask is fine Gators are also allowed so long again is day is it covers the Bando is a dead mouse I'm in instantly all the way what's the temp in the fancy or masks the end 95 etcetera if that's what you want but a simple cloth mask will do I've been using this one today it's just a basic cloth mask it does have a dual air but that works fine and you for some reason student just bring a master forgets to bring a mask we will have masks that we can give them to the day I have the answer it's $25 for the set 13 for the shorts and then 12 for the shirt there was a question we got in the chat I don't the first part I think it might have been a typo the first week do they need up maybe I'm thinking books because they're related to books teachers will bring students as they need to check out books were there individual classes not all classes require a book I think it was a backpack they were asking about that's come up a few time students it's not mandatory to have a backpack that is definitely recommended they're going to be received papers documents informational pieces and they may be receiving blocked from their teacher so it's just helpful to have websites for students to put all of their stuff I see a question about a testing I assume that regarding covid testing specifically so again because the Athletics Youth Sports Protocols of all retired at this time there is no mandatory covid testing of athletes as there were I was at various times of last year but again eyes I was said also at the beginning of the presentation I'm expecting that they are going to recreate some of those used Force protocols again I'm now that you sports are really getting going and so it wouldn't surprise me if that changes but for now there is no testing requirement for athletes even the temperature test isn't isn't going to be required we're asking we're asking for has to keep their kids home if they're sick that's that's going to be the biggest piece of this I were asking students to self assess wrestling coaches to remind their students not to come to practice either sick or do they need to bring anything freshman first day they bring something to write with they are going to get a bath Ben has like a little schedule they got some program changes are made and something else is probably escaping me but some other teacher making them handouts as if I pulled out of pen or pencil to write down but other than that they're knocking in their time with their teachers is breve it's not that building. Cool supplies it's more about getting some other teachers and the teachers will also I talked a little bit about Cardinal Supply couple questions about PE clothes I saw the question about can students wear sweats peed on your students PE teachers will be going through all of the all of the things that students can or should or shouldn't wear during PE first couple of days you get information on that in writing so I don't want to speak to the PE teachers on that but I would say there's a general rule out to you teachers are pretty flexible about what students can wear to PE what they're most concerned about is the whatever students are wearing for PE stay off of physical activity is not something that's going to be easy this going to that's going to be too constrictive or anything like that but they tend to be pretty flexible with things like sweats and shorts and and all that ends I yes you can I can't 10 students purchase PE clothes on freshman first day on when I reply but I believe on Wednesday that will be something that is available to them if they want to do him after the day ends cuz you don't want them to miss any of down Thursday we will absolutely be out in force to make sure that our students find a way to class we do like I said even our seniors have really we had a full year with us and then they had you know what proportion of the Year about three-quarters of you with us their sophomore year so yeah we'll be out about will make sure I understand that people are still finding their way around and we'll look like said we'll make sure they get the class okay if they're not penalized if it ends up taking a few more minutes to find their classroom about the one-way Direction the past of travel from the spring and we're happy to report that we will not have to follow that path of travel are we happy to report that is about that restriction there are still I believe with your shirt be able to purchase we are always happy to sell one of your shirts and would love to get the card hope you're out there for folks are you can purchase in office also the folks I think it's about time for us to go ahead and wrap up for the evening I want to thank all of you for participating is you have if you have other questions as the week progresses please feel free to give us a call any of our offices I will try to get the information before you can also send any of his emails I was really looking forward to working with you and your students this year we want this to be the best school year we possibly can give to the students with your high school and we're just really excited to be back so thank you for being here today everybody had a great night
