Whittier High Sends Holiday Cards to Troops

Operation Christmas Cards was in full swing at Whittier High School in November, when students decorated and wrote over 1,700 cards that will be mailed to members of the armed forces overseas for the holidays.

Working with veteran John Welter and Whittier High instructional aide Michele Huck, the school has been participating in the Operation Christmas Cards for Our Troops program since 2015.

During its first year, Whittier High collected 100 cards, followed by 200 in 2016, 414 in 2017 and 535 in 2018. This year, the school collected 1,707 cards.

Students decorated and submitted the holiday cards, which included special messages for service members in Iraq, Afghanistan and other parts of the world where American service members are stationed.
