District Releases Draft Trustee Maps

Whittier Union High School District has released additional draft trustee area maps for the community to review and comment on as it moves toward shifting from at-large elections to by-trustee area elections.

Beginning in November 2020, residents will vote for a single Board of Trustees candidate residing in their newly drawn trustee area, usually one-fifth of the entire district.

Four maps – NDC GreenNDC OrangeNDC Purple and NDC Teal – were developed by professional demographers based on comments from public hearings and community workshops. One map – C. Perez 1 – was drawn by community members. All maps will be available for additional comment during the regular board meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11.

The public may submit input regarding the maps and how the trustee areas are divided. The draft maps and comment boxes are available at the five comprehensive high schools, District office and at the WUHSD District Formation Process website.

Attendees may also provide input on the maps and corresponding election plans during the final round of Community Open Houses, taking place as follows:

Thursday, Dec. 13, 6-8 p.m.
Pioneer High School, 10800 Benavon St., Whittier
