AP Human Geography is a challenging course designed to be the equivalent of a freshman college Human Geography course. The purpose of the AP Human Geography course is to introduce students to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of the earth’s surface. Students employ spatial concepts and landscape analysis to examine human social origin and its environmental consequences. They also learn about the methods and tools geographers use in their science and practice. Students should possess strong reading and writing skills. Emphasis will be placed upon analytical writing, class discussion, and use of primary and secondary sources. The course is designed to prepare students for the Advanced Placement Human Geography Exam. A successful score on this examination will give students college credit at many universities.
