1. Clap & count the rhythm. You have a new time signature.
6/8 time signature (there are six beats per measure) 123456, 123456 etc.
The bottom number of a time signature tells us what note receives 1 beat. Since the bottom number is now an 8, think of it as a fraction of 1/8, and the eighth note/rest receives 1 beat in 6/8 time.
Therefore, a quarter note receives 2 beats.
a dotted quarter note receives 3 beats.
2. Say the letter names of the notes in rhythm.
3. Play the song on your guitar. (B-flat is 3.3 on the fret board).
4. Play the song on your guitar while saying the letter names of the notes in rhythm.
5. Strum the chords using dotted quarter notes(two strums in each measure of 6/8 time). Strum on count 1
and count 4 of each measure.

6. There are two new chords. C#m is a four string chord. Do not play the 5th and 6th strings. F#m is a barre chord. Place your 1st finger across the 2nd fret for the barre. You will strum all 6th strings.
7. The song begins in the key of E minor. The E natural minor scale is the following: E,F#,G,A,B,C,D,E. Or 4.2, 4.4, 3.0, 3.2, 2.0, 2.1, 2.3, 1.0. Play the E minor scale ascending and descending using half notes, then strum the E minor chord.
Note: The E minor scale pattern of steps is the following: WHWWHWW. The key of E minor has 1-sharp (F#).
8. There is a key change in the middle of the song. The new key is E major. The E major scale is the following: E,F#,G#,A,B,C#,D#,E. Or 4.2, 4.4, 3.1, 3.2, 2.0, 2.2, 2.4, 1.0. Play the E major scale ascending and descending using half notes, then strum the E major chord.
Note: The E major scale pattern of steps is the following: WWHWWWH. The key of E major has 4-sharps (F#,C#,G#,D#).
9. Playing both scales prior to playing the song we give you a good sense of the keys (scales) involved.

6. You have two new chords. Fdim7 is a barre chord. Make sure to place your 1st finger across all strings on the 1st fret. The C/G is what we call a slash chord. This is a regular C chord with a G note in the bass or bottom of the chord. Notice there are chord changes that occur on the 4th beat of the following measures: #6 (Em), #13 (Fdim7). Those two measures will have a strumming pattern of half, quarter, quarter (G-G-Em) and (F-F-Fim7).

Practice all four chords on the attached document (F, F barre chord, G and G7). The finger placement is shown in the picture above each chord.
Audio record yourself playing each of the 4 chords. Play each chord 2 times. The 1st time will be playing each string of the chord slowly and separately. The 2nd time will be playing the chord strings together like a single strum.
During the audio recording, say the name of the chord before your play it. Submit your audio recording to our google classroom by Tuesday April 21st.
Note: There are two 'F' chords. The 4-string f chord requires you to lay down your 1st finger across the 1st fret of strings #1-2. The 6-string f chord requires you to lay down your 1st finger across the 1st fret of all strings #1-6. The 6-string f chord is called a barre chord.

Questions 1-9. Sharp Keys-Go to the last sharp (farthest to the right) and go up to the next line or space to find the key.
Flat Keys-Go to the last flat (farthest to the right) and go back (to the left) one flat to find the key. Easier said, take the second to the last flat.
