LOS ANGELES COUNTY ANTI-TRUANCY ORDINANCE
On January 30, 1996, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervision adopted an ordinance designed to curb school truancy.
Effective April 15, 1996, students who appear in public places between the hours of 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., without an acceptable excuse when they should be in school, may receive truancy citations from law enforcement officers.
Students violating the Anti-Truancy Ordinance - and in some cases, their parents - may be subject to one or more severe penalties.
A fine of up to $250
Court-approved community service
Court-approved parenting classes (for parents)
TRUANCIES:
Truancies are assigned when a student is absent from school/class without a valid excuse.
A student may lose (at teacher's discretion) the privilege of making up missed work as a penalty for truancy.
If a student is truant for any part of the school day, student can be issued a truancy citation by our campus Deputy or student may be put on an Attendance Contract for a period of time.
Truancies will affect citizenship and can affect academic grades.
All full day (confirmed) truancies are assigned Saturday School.
Excessive period or full day absences will result in a Saturday School assignment.
